Pahalgam's beautiful hospital without full-fledged faculties.

Pahalgam's beautiful hospital without full-fledged faculties.
September 28,2017: Pahalgam government hospital has deployment of doctors and is in media gaze only during the yatra period but there hasn't  been a single lady doctor in the hospital since the last one year . Pahalgam and its surroundings  has a population of over 30,000 who are being made to face immense hardship due to this. This clearly shows the health department 's intent. People want permanent posting of doctors esp lady doctor in the hospital but while doctors and other staff pay bribes to get a summer posting they pay bribes to get a posting away from Pahalgam as there is no scope for making money in winters. If the health department continues to have this attitude they should instead shut this shop up and put a lock on the hospital.

The western world, also wants India and Pakistan to  keep fighting so that they can happily sell arms, run their shops and control the region.

September 24,2017: Those who say they'll wage a war for hundred or thousand  years must not forget that no war has ever solved a political issue and India and Pakistan both the countries  should instead sit down together with Kashmir and resolve the issue through dialogue so that kashmiri people's suffering wll be end . The western world, also wants India and Pakistan to  keep fighting so that they can happily sell arms, run their shops and control the region.
Those who want to wage a war should not forget the immense poverty, inequality and under development the nation is facing and should stop fooling the nation by taking everybody's attention away from these issues by talking about war Kashmir has been facing the consequences of this politics of hate and constructed mistrust more than anybody elase and wants a final and peaceful solution to the issue so that we can also lead normal lives and live in peace and dignity.

Dowry a bad evil!

September 24,2017 We Himalayan Welfare Organization-HWO team accompanied with members of Nunwanan Welfare Committee (NWC)Went to half dozen houses in my native village Nunwanan Ganieshbal Pahalgam where weddings are due in the October,November and we requested them to limit wedding expenses to a minimum. They accepted our submission and said this is a good initiative given the unnecessary pressure that is caused to the families of girls who are not financially sound. We also urge and appeal to all to help curb this bidat and strive to make a healthy and happy society. We had said we'll start a ground campaign to curb the menance of extravagent weddings and with the will of the almighty we have started off the process this wedding season itself.

Eating natural foods like fruits and vegetables can help you to loose weight quickly and support our body with good immunity power.

September 23,2017: Eating natural foods like fruits and vegetables can help you to loose weight quickly and support our body with good immunity power. We should avoid eating junk foods to keep our body safe and toxic free.  Some fruits and vegetables contain anti-oxidants, which help to improve our body's cell growth. Natural foods also contain high amounts of vitamins and proteins which provide natural energy and power.

Polythene bags a health hazard, Health polythene and food!

Polythene bags a health hazard, Health polythene and food!
September 21,2017: When cooking foods like Wazwan,  Chicken , rice, meat even tea, people tend to use polythene bags to wrap and cover the food, however, this is unhealthy.
This is because polythene has chemicals that can be transferred to food as it cooks.
According medical. practitioners ,experts, when food comes in contact with a material that is not inert, chances are that chemical will be transferred to the food, hence contamination.
They says the bi products do not have an immediate effect, but rather can cause a running stomach.
The polythene bi products are hard for the body to digest and expose the person to consequences like different cancers.
They explains that when a foreign element enters the body, the mechanism reacts by sending cells to fight the foreign body, however when the body cells are over powered different cancers like abdominal or kidney are likely to occur.
Apart from the cancers caused by chemicals in polythene bags, some chemicals like chloride when heated, tend to smell and make the food have a chemical scent in it hence making it less tasty as well as making it lose the important nutrients.
There is a safe and better option that is use of other bags or leaves instead of polythene .

September 19,2017: People are spending exorbitant sums of money on weddings in Kashmir  these days. As a result those girls whose parents can't afford this kind of expenditure, are having a tough time finding a groom and some even committ suicide because of dowry....harassment. Maulvies, Imams and other religious people should proactively denounce and discourage the practice as it is biddat and is un-islamic. The civil society should also take up the matter and we, at the Himalayan Welfare Organization, will go from door to door urging people to take a stand against it. We need everybody's suppprt in this and hope that all of you will cooperate inshallah  in this noble cause.

Municipal Corporations, committees and councils all over the state, be it Pahalgam, Aishmuqam, Seerhamdan  or Mattan,Ananthnag......  are regularly dumping untreated garbage near water bodies or sensitive zones .

September 18 2017: Municipal Corporations, committees and councils all over the state, be it Pahalgam, Aishmuqam, Seerhamdan  or Mattan,Ananthnag......  are regularly dumping untreated garbage near water bodies or sensitive zones . This rivulet merges with the Lidder River and other bodies ahead and the same water is then consumed by thousands of people living downstream.
That some owners of private hotels situated outside municipal limits also dump garbage at the sites like sarbal, aishmuqam secretively, severely affecting hundreds of residential settlements around the dumping site. Clearly this is to pocket the money they get to treat the garbage as part of routine expenditure obviously at huge environmental costs. A.state-wide campaign needs to be launched to check this practise and a firm and directioned course of action needs to be immediately devised. Higher authorities need to conduct internal enquiries and hold liable the guilty while FIRs should also simultaneously be launched against those responsible for contamination of water bodies and for putting public safety and health of local residents at risk making tthem vulnerable to a host of water borne diseases including diseases Hepatitis A, E.

Kashmir floods and state administration

September 19,2017: The point is, floods are not new to the kashmir valley and with the kind of drainage the region enjoys, flooding esp. in the valley areas is always a very real possibility. The question is, why haven't we learned any lessons from the past and prepared ourselves for such situtations? The state unit of the disater management is poorly equipped to say the least and the staff are hardly trained even by basic standards. The questions to be asked are, why is there no effective disater management training for the SDMA staff or no water-sports training for the lakhs of police personal deployed in the valley and other relevant organizations? What about absconding state government officials who went missing from duty just when they were needed the most in esp? Will they be tried under provisions of the Essential Services Mainance Act (ESMA) eventually, It needs to be noted that while it may seem pre-mature to ask these questions at this juncture, the answers to these very questions may hold the key to future containment of damage and efficient handling of such situtations. Even in Srinagar where flood warning was issued at the eleventh hour in 2014 floods , people did not know where to go if they evacuated their houses. There were no relief camps, no arrangements for food supply, no medicines.

What is Solid Waste ?

What is Solid Waste ?
September 16,2017: Each household generates garbage or waste day in and day out. Items that we no longer need or do not have any further use for fall in the category of waste, and we tend to throw them away. These items are called Solid Waste. At the household-level proper segregation of waste has to be done and it should be ensured that all organic matter is kept aside for composting...

Categories of Solid Waste

Organic waste  kitchen waste, vegetables, flowers, leaves, fruits.
Toxic waste  old medicines, paints, chemicals, bulbs, spray cans, fertilizer and pesticide containers, batteries, shoe polish. Recyclable  paper, glass, metals, plastics.
Soiled  hospital waste such as cloth soiled with blood and other body fluids

Types of solid waste

Solid waste can be classified into different types depending on their source:

Municipal solid waste (Household Waste)

Municipal solid waste consists of household waste, construction and demolition debris, sanitation residue, and waste from streets. This garbage is generated mainly from residential and commercial complexes. In 1947 cities and towns in India generated an estimated 6 million tonnes of solid waste, in 1997 it was about 48 million tonnes. More than 25% of the municipal solid waste is not collected at all.

Hazardous wastes (Industrial and hospital waste)

Industrial and hospital waste is considered hazardous as they may contain toxic substances. India generates around 7 million tonnes of hazardous wastes every year, most of which is concentrated in four states: Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu. Household wastes that can be categorized as hazardous waste include old batteries, shoe polish, paint tins, old medicines, and medicine bottles.

Hospital waste (Bio medical waste )

Hospital waste is generated during the diagnosis, treatment, or immunization of human beings or animals or in research activities in these fields or in the production or testing of biological. This waste is highly infectious and can be a serious threat to human health if not managed in a scientific and discriminate manner.

Health impacts of solid waste

Exposure to hazardous waste can affect human health, children being more vulnerable to these pollutants. Many studies have been carried out in various parts of the world to establish a connection between health and hazardous waste.

Waste from agriculture and industries can also cause serious health risks. Waste dumped near a water source also causes contamination of the water body or the ground water source.

Disposal of hospital and other medical waste requires special attention since this can create major health hazards.

Waste treatment and disposal sites can also create health hazards for the neighborhood. Improperly operated incineration plants cause air pollution and improperly managed and designed landfills attract all types of insects and rodents that spread disease

Recycling too carries health risks if proper precautions are not taken.
Direct handling of solid waste can result in various types of infectious and chronic diseases with the waste workers and the rag pickers being the most vulnerable.

Preventive measures At the household-level proper segregation of waste has to be done and it should be ensured that all organic matter is kept aside for composting, which is undoubtedly the best method for the correct disposal of this segment of the waste.

What you can do to reduce solid waste ?

Carry your own cloth or jute bag when you go shopping.

Say no to all plastic bags as far as possible.

Reduce the use of paper bags also.

Reuse the soft drinks poly bottles for storing water.

Segregate the waste in the house -keep two garbage bins and see to it that the biodegradable and the non biodegradable is put into separate bins and dispose off separately.

Dig a compost pit in your garden and put all the biodegradable into it.

See to it that all garbage is thrown into the municipal bin as the collection is generally done from there.

When you go out do not throw paper and other wrappings or even leftover food here and there, make sure that it is put in the correct place, that is into a dustbin

As far as possible try to sell all the recyclable items that are not required to the Kabariwala (person who trades in waste)

We should change our habit, and replace the daily polythene bag with a jute or cloth hand bag.

September 15, 2017: We should change  our habit, and replace the daily polythene bag with a jute or cloth hand bag.
Polythene is a very important issue in Environmental contamination debates. It is  now used in every sector, but there are a lot of problems created by polythene use, including, infertility of soil, Pond, Canal, River water pollution. Polythene use also causes cancer, in both humans, who store and consume eatables kept in polythene  and in animals like the cow, dogs etc who swallow polythene bags.accidentally while.feeding on.garbage. Polythene.has the most terrible effect in our daily life, as its viciousness knows no bounds and even he drainage system has now entirely collapsed due to polythene use.

It is now incumbent that we take care of the matter and follow some rules in our daily matters. Avoid the use of polythene, do not throw polythene in drains etc., to avoid  polythene use jute, cloth and paper bags. We are in the habit of using  polythene bags but change will come only when we make a conscious effort to change this habit, which is why we have published the ill-effects of polythene use. Please read, try to follow and circulate.

The water in Lidder receeding and turning white before time is a clear indication of glacier melting esp kolhai glacier .

September 14,2017: The water in Lidder receeding and turning white before time is a clear indication of glacier melting esp kolhai glacier . This will inevitabily lead to a severe water crisis in the times to come, and the state and local society must take the matter seriously. Unless we understand the gravity of the situation and decidedly do something about it, we are in for hard times ahead. The water in river lidder used to clear and pristine around this time of the year but some big hotels in the region who discharge sewage water in  Lidder River are causing irreparable damage to the river and its fragile aquatic ecosystem . It's time we think about it and compell others to question these people before its too late.

September 12,2017: Water is life and it’s availability per capita has been on the decline in Society . The main reasons have been the increasing population leading to the increasing demand for water. Agriculture is the main consumer of water along with many industries and life sources so harvesting rainwater... is one of the best ways everyone can make water available in their surroundings. Moreover, water reuse with water treatment and recycling of water is another good option to reduce its consumption.

Pahalgam Master Plan Implemented today

Pahalgam Master Plan Implemented today.
Srinagar September 05,2017: There was a time when the Pahalgam Master plan 2005-25 was being worked upon and all objections and suggestions to which were filled in by the then chief town-planner Mir Naseem and Town Planner Abdul Hamid along with their team, irrespective of whoever's names were shown in! No wonder, they helped their own kith and kin as much as they could  and permission for construction was given to areas where these people had their lands esp in forest areas like Circuit road ganieshbal presently named pine clif resorts, Near Hotel Hill Park one CTP's brother doctor and chanhaji lush green  forest area . However, when pahalgam peoples welfare organisation PPWO gathered the courage to file the public interest litigation PIL before Jammu and kashmir hon'ble high court in 2008, a case was also registered in August 2008    against these officers in vigilance organisation of kashnir VOK and last year itself, the then town-planner has been identified and declared dead wood and has been removed from the department for all his fraudulent practices.

It is true that the people of the region have undergone much suffering and have faced a difficult time due to the construction ban, but their patience has paid off and justice has finally been done, with a pro people judgement  finally having being pronounced master plan 2014-2032 now implemented on ground and people got permission from BOCA as per this revised master plan, but  no scope of any leniency or relaxation in green-area public/forest land use. Apart form this, the hon'ble court today has also directed the Pahalgam Development Authority PDA to undertake proper management of solid and waste and sewage treatment and has clearly ordered that source segregation of waste be adopted, as we have been demanding over the years.

This is not a small accomplishment and the fact that we have won with the support and patience of the people of Pahalgam, and that we have battle together for a long nine years is the greatest victory in itself. There was so much that we did not know when we started off and there's much more still that we have learnt over the years! We can only be grateful to the almighty that justice has finally been done and we must acknowledge that it's only truth that wins at last. I must also thank our friends  and co litigants, Riyaz Ahmad Lone and Khala Peer and our counsel in the case, noted human rights activist and lawyer Parvez Imroz shb, for their sustained support and courage all along. Friends and newspapers  in the media esp,Greater Kashmir, Kashmir Reader, Kashmir Times, Early Times etc also merit our gratitude for taking the issue to a wider audience and for making this fight for the rights of the people of Pahalgam, their own. All of us need to continue to stand together in the battle and take things to their logical last end till proper implementation is delivered, and I solicit everybody's support and cooperation in this.

Do not curse nature :Introspect ourselves! Part 5

Do not curse nature :Introspect ourselves! Part 5
Pahalgam September 03,2017: So, we are not honest with the nature. We are damaging the nature, we are polluting our environment and in order to get more profit we are trying to prepare everything artificial. We think we can fool the nature but it is not true, we can make fraud with ourselves but not with the nature. Nature remains silent but it responds also silently. We work against nature, we fight against nature, but it is true we can never win against the nature. It is clear that our world is unstable; nature is unbalanced. We cry in winter, in summer, in draught and then in flood. In all these extreme climatic conditions, we find ourselves helpless and wait for nature to become normal. So we should be honest with the nature. Think not only for today; think for tomorrow also. Think not only for yourself; think for your next generation also.

There are forecasts for big disasters in future, but if this is the way to work continue against nature we can face any disaster any day. Nature is vast so it is absorbing all the disturbances, once it crosses the limit we will see our world collapsing. If nature damages us, none of the science or technology will be in position to save us. Till now nature is kind enough to the human being and now it's time to support the nature honestly, stop all activities against nature, stop cutting trees and forest, plant more and more trees, reduce garbage, save energy, say 'NO' to the plastic, live more disciplined life, be friendly to the environment, curb the pollution, read more and more literature in support of environment and work accordingly then our world may survive, otherwise nature will take over finally in its own style and it will be nothing but a playback of nature.
