Civic body trash environmental norms!

Bijbhera October  ,31,2017: The Municipal committee of Bijbhera has been continuously dumping garbage along with roadside on the bank of Kerkadal Nallah near degree college Bijbhera ,and as can be seen in the picture here, garbage is practically being dumped on the river side here. The HWO has raised the matter in media and with concerned authorities earlier too and the Himalayan Welfare Organization  HWO team visited the site today too, only to our disappointment.
All this garbage flows downstream with the nallah and burnt by the municipal committee, putting the health and lives of people in the entire region at risk. Mushtaq Pahalgami spoke to the concerned authorities regarding this and he has assured us of taking strict note of the matter.
failing which we'll be compelled to file a criminal case against the Municipal Committee Bijbhera MCB.

People of kashmir and People of  Chinab Valley should construct earthquake resistant houses...

People of kashmir and People of  Chinab Valley should construct earthquake resistant houses...

Follow suggestions....

Earthquake Resistant Building Materials for Your Home An earthquake can devastate your life and your home. If you live in an area which is prone to earthquakes, it may be worthwhile utilizing some earthquake resistant building materials for your home.
If you are relocating to a house in an earthquake prone area, research when the last earthquake was and how frequent they have been in that area. This will give you the opportunity and timescale required to ensure that your new home is made from as much earthquake resistant material as possible.

Base isolation Pads
If possible, try to have any new constructions built on base isolation pads as these will absorb most of the vibrations and limit the damage caused to your home.
Base isolation pads are most commonly made from lead and rubber which is sandwiched together with layers of steel and attached between the base and foundations of your house. In the event of an earthquake, the base isolation pads will move because of the shaking beneath them but because they will absorb most of the vibrations your home should remain relatively still.
Base isolation pads are more commonly found in high rise or multi-level buildings.

Materials
There are certain building materials that will withstand earthquake vibrations better than others. Concrete is very good at resisting damage from earthquakes while wood is also a preferred material for construction in earthquake prone areas.
If your home is built out of wood, you will need to ensure that it is bolted down at the foundations because if it is not the force from an earthquake will cause it to move and create structural damage.
If your home is built out of concrete, you should try to have the concrete reinforced with either additional concrete slabs or steel. If you have any brickwork buildings or structures such as garages or garden walls, ensure that they are reinforced with concrete slabs as this will offer some protection in an earthquake.

The Roof
The roof of your property will be the first part of the house that is damaged. However, if your roof is made from concrete or clay tiles they will respond better in the event of an earthquake. If your roof has been damaged in an earthquake, hire a contractor and specifically request that the roof is repaired or reconstructed out of one of these materials.

House Height
Earthquake research has found that houses with a single storey cope better with the forced shaking which an earthquake will subject your home to. Multi-levels houses can be built to resist earthquakes but they need to be built with reinforced concrete or built on base isolation pads.

Securing furniture
Regardless of whether your home is made from a wooden frame or reinforced concrete, the furniture within it will still need to be secured. Place all valuables in a safe, sturdy box with rubber matting between them to prevent damage Strap heavy furniture such as book cases and wardrobes to the wall as this will prevent them from falling.

Flexible Hose
Replace solid pipe work with flexible hosing wherever possible.
This is more resistant to earthquake movement and if installed slightly oversized, there should rarely be any ruptures of leaks in the aftermath of ground tremors.

The fire continuously taking place in Pahalgam forests is a matter of grave concern and intrigue.

Himalaya October 24,2017:The fire continuously taking place in Pahalgam forests is a matter of grave concern and intrigue. While the Lidder Forest Division has been doing a great job in trying to put the fire out, fire keeps starting at new places every now and then. The Lidder Forest Division  especislly DFO Lidder have been making substantial efforts for re growing forests and have been sucessful too but they must also find out the source of this fire, which is something we can certainly not overlook. Secondly, even the State Forest Corporation SFC department should take a note of this and help the forest department in seeing that the fire is controlled , still SFC  are missing or absconding . Is their job only to dry and collect wood from the forests? We request the government to constitute a high level committee and enquire about the grave matter so that the truth comes out.

Wasting food should be considered as one of the greatest crime against humanity.

World Food Day and our role!
Wasting food should be considered as one of the greatest crime against humanity. There are millions around the world who go hungry everyday. Thousands die because of malnutrition and starvation every year. Tremendous natural resources are wasted to produce the wasted food which has a negative impact on the environment. Food wastage is a serious problem and all of us need to take steps to control this menace.

World food day 2017:

Happy  World Food Day, 16 October 2017

Food is your body's fuel. Without fuel, your body wants to shut down.
Change the future of migration. Invest in food security and rural development.

The world is on the move. More people have been forced to flee their homes than at any time since the Second World War due to increased conflict and political instability. But hunger, poverty, and an increase in extreme weather events linked to climate change are other important factors contributing to the migration challenge.

Large movements of people today are presenting complex challenges, which call for global action. Many migrants arrive in developing countries, creating tensions where resources are already scarce, but the majority, about 763 million, move within their own countries rather than abroad.

Three-quarters of the extreme poor base their livelihoods on agriculture or other rural activities. Creating conditions that allow rural people, especially youth, to stay at home when they feel it is safe to do so, and to have more resilient livelihoods, is a crucial component of any plan to tackle the migration challenge.

Rural development can address factors that compel people to move by creating business opportunities and jobs for young people that are not only crop-based (such as small dairy or poultry production, food processing or horticulture enterprises). It can also lead to increased food security, more resilient livelihoods, better access to social protection, reduced conflict over natural resources and solutions to environmental degradation and climate change.

By investing in rural development, the international community can also harness migration’s potential to support development and build the resilience of displaced and host communities, thereby laying the ground for long-term recovery and inclusive and sustainable growth.

Pahalgam Golf Course and Free Tournaments

Pahalgam October 12,2017: Even as hundred crores of rupees have been spent on the land acquisition, construction, development and maintainence of the 18 hole Pahalgam GOLF COURSE so far,  there is no separate budget for the same and taxpayers' money spent on it is diverted away from other uses like washroom, lanes ,draines, pathes,  health etc. Also, since most tournaments and people who play here do not pay any fee, the golf course fails to generate any substantial income. We will however not allow anybody to misuse the resource as it is a public property and nobody's personal resource and we have moved an RTI application to find out who and when has come to play here, what fees they have paid and how much income is generated by the fascility, so that truth comes out clear.

The disappearing or sudden decrease in volume of water in water bodies like lidder River is a matter of concern.

October 10,2017: The disappearing or sudden decrease in volume of water in water bodies like lidder River is a matter of concern. While water in Lidder River and other water bodies has literally disappeared or has witnessed a sudden decrease especially between August to March over the last decade under the pressure of rapid, and badly managed, urbanization. A number of residential houses, guest houses and hotels from Pahalgam to Sangam  discharge their sewage and waste in the river, aggravating pollution levels and if this continues we might not be able to even see the river in the times to come, except in photographs. Even the glaciers are disappearing due to excessive human intervention and the only hope for water now is good snowfall.

The beautiful Lidder Valley has over a dozen small and large water bodies, which are the bedrock of both its ecology and its economy. Unfortunately over the last two decades, massive urbanization and encroachment around these water bodies has led to pollution, siltation due to deforestation, poor sewage treatment system STS,untreated garbage, and overexploitation of the many glaciers  and lakes. Many glaciers of the upper reaches of lidder valley  have shrunk to a fraction of their original size while some have all but disappeared.

The situation is the same with river Sind and the general state of health of all these water bodies is rapidly deteriorating. Needless to say this calls for immediate intervention and the state environment department's apathy and indifderence in the matter is a matter of contempt and concern.

Dowrey and domestic violence have gripped the society in their evil vice once again as wedding season is back in kashmir valley.

October 09,2017: Dowrey and domestic violence have gripped the society in their evil vice once again as wedding season is back in kashmir valley. The practise of dowry not only breaks the family of the bride financially, often by trapping  them into a cycle of debt but also sends a wrong message to the society, putting immense social pressure and burden on the poorer sections to copy the rich in the practise of giving elaborate dowry and spending unreasonable sums on the wedding feast. If the rich have money to spare, they should instead give it to  the poor and needy . We should also think its our own people who we are demanding dowry from and our own who we subject to torture and abuse for dowry. We also appeal to anybody who is abused for dowry, to bring the matter to public notice and Himalayan Welfare Organization-HWO legal team will try to provide all possible free legal help to them. We also appeal to people involved with the legal system to help develop a strong anti-dowry law and help foster an envirinment of confidence in the legal system among victims in the state.

Burning pahalgam forests!

October 07,2017: Whoever starts the fire in forests  needs to be identified and held guilty by the forest department . Also local youth esp  who were playing cricket and watching when the fire started, should have immediately informed the police and fire department  and helped douse the fire. Afterall the forests are our own property, they are a source of both tourism and livelihood and we, each one of us, needs to be the first person to volunteer to save the green gold.

Most powerful movements

Most powerful movements

1. STICKING TO A CAUSE
Chipko Movement, 1973

In the wake of reckless deforestation, a unique movement has bubbled,”observed India Today in March 1982. The 1980s saw the debate on environment move from just deforestation to the larger issues of depletion of natural resources.“

Chipko movement in the Garhwal Himalayas, shoved aside urban armchair naturalists.

Led by Chandni Prasad Bhatt and Sunderlal Bahuguna, it was a people’s revolt against mindless deforestation.

And they did it simply. By hugging trees when the woodmen came to axe them,”said India Today in January 1990.

Power Politics Or SRO Politics !

October 01,2017: It is a matter of shame and sorrow how some people in Jammu and Kashmir  have made SRO politics into a family enterprise, with sons, daughters  and nephews succeeding the older lot. This not only denies deserving people their right to be... but also kills the democratic spirit of party politics. One must ask what good is it to keep alive a dying entity forcibly by keeping it on ventilator when it cannot survive on its own competence. The people are however becoming aware and will not let this continue,  and they will give a fitting answer to these imposters near future too .
