Do not curse nature : Introspect ourselves .part 4

Do not curse nature : Introspect ourselves .part 4

Pahalgam September 01,2017:We have to search the answer within ourselves; we need to listen the voice of our soul. In the present world, we all are running to achieve some goal, which is probably not very clear to us. The aim of life is also not very clear. We are not silent; our mind does not have any peace. We work like a machine to earn more and more money. After a lot of effort we get money, but at that time probably we cannot enjoy it, either we do not have time to enjoy or our health does not permit us. Thus if we are not stable, how we will make our nature stable?

The other important question to us: are we supportive to nature? If we examine thoroughly we will see that we are working against nature. We harm nature very frequently for our small benefits. We cut trees and forests on the name of industrialization and modernization. We pollute our environment without much worry. Since nature does not cry, so we damage it happily with cruelty. We talk big in support of nature; make a number of conferences on global warming, a lot of commitments to curb the pollution, but where is the reality? It seems very far.

It is also true when we cannot think for ourselves, how we will think for nature? In today's world it is difficult to talk of purity, everything is artificial. We prepare artificial duplicate food products, which is totally unnatural, unethical and extremely dangerous for our health. It is really shame that we produce synthetic milk with urea and other milk products. The vegetables, fruits are ripened artificially using dangerous chemicals. The medicines are also duplicate. So it is pity to say that nothing is pure now days and we sell poison very happily without any botheration. All these activities are not natural and we, ourselves, are pushing our world to an artificial poisonous disastrous world. Do not curse nature; we are responsible for this change in nature.

We appealed to the government and civil society to pay immediate attention to these issues and implement our suggestions in larger interest of the environment and local society.

Pahalgam September 01,2017: The Aru.Lidderwatt,Lidderwat Satlaj, Kolhai,  Lidderwatt Tarsar, Marsar ,Thajiwas and Sonamarg trek routes are increasingly getting contaminated and irreparably damaged by accumulation of plastic, polythene and other non-biodegradable waste dumped along the way by international domestic and regional tourists and campers. The government esp wildlife department pahalgam development authority PDA  and tourism department needs to evolve immediate and stringent measures to contain the same Heaps of garbage can be seen piling on the route, which the Pahalgam Development Authority, Tourism and Wildlife departments must bring back immediately. Kolahoi glacier which is further up on the route has also severely receded because of these insensitive practices and non-serious attitude of the authorities. Similar piles of garbage can be also be seen on the Amarnath route and camps and need to be similarly cleared by the Shrine Board, Pahalgam Development Authority and Tourism Department  with a sense of immediate concern. A substantial security deposit amount must be collected from yatries, tourists and hikers on this route and the number of poly-bags etc. they are carrying must be recorded. Anybody who does not bring the non biodegradable stuff back must be punished by confiscating his/her security deposit. Civil society and government Patrol groups must also frequent the trek route to check and stop anybody lighting camp fires on the trek.  Aru Lidderwatt, Lidderwatt Satlaj, Kolhai, Lidderwatt Tarsar Marsar and other trekking treks is one of the most important, scenic and challenging treks in the region and must be taken good care of. Neglecting the pressing concerns of ecologically sensitive regions such as these can not only cause subsequent closure of these treck routes but may also lead to climate change in the surrounding regions.

We appealed to the government and civil society to pay immediate attention to these issues and implement our suggestions in larger interest of the environment and local society.

Do not curse nature:Introspect ourselves. part 3

Do not curse nature:Introspect ourselves.

Pahalgam August 31,2017: After the summer we wait for rain, which we get every year after the draught. We get unpredictive and unprecedented rain after the draught, which results in flood and havoc every-year. We cry and fear while seeing this disastrous face of nature (flood and havoc).

Thus we see the climax of nature three times every year with a new record, we face disastrous situation with significant number of causalities throughout the year. This indicates clearly that our nature is unbalanced. This abnormal unstable behavior of nature is a serious threat for human beings. The earthquake, tsunami and volcano are some other horrible faces of our nature. But let us think who is making our world unstable, who is making our nature imbalance Who is responsible for it Why our nature is becoming uncooperative to us?

In J&K, particularly in the far flung areas of Kashmir, some doctors have made it a routine business to prescribe expensive drugs

Pahalgam August 30,2017: In J&K, particularly in the far flung areas of Kashmir, some doctors have made it a routine business to prescribe expensive drugs by unreliable companies even if suitable cheaper generic drugs are available. Shamefully enough, they also ask patients to show them wrappers of medicines bought, so they could be sure medicines of the same company have been purchased. Such fraudulent and selfish greedy practices need to be exposed and stopped immediately, as some doctors do this for the sake of private commission they receive from MRs of these companies! This is obviously done at the cost of the patient's health and life, and while the doctors make heavy money from this shady unethical dealing, patients don't get better, and the illness gets worse!

This is also a clear and blatant violation of court-orders and Medical council of India's directives, which require doctors to prescribe the salt name and not specific brand name of medicines. The government and state administration should take strict note of this and the whole system of MRs of  companies visiting doctors to push certain brands of medicines should be stopped altogether and with immediate effect.

A number of trenches were dug up here during the yatra, particularly on the circuit road, which one can see in the pictures.

Pahalgam August 29,2017: A number of trenches were dug up here during the yatra, particularly on the circuit road, which one can see in the pictures. These trenches were not filled even after the yatra ended and even the accumulated sewage can be seen open there even now, generating a very foul smell. Once the rains set in, all this will flow down and will get mixed with the drinking water sources people living downstream. They have also not filled the bunkers that were made for the yatra and the Pahalgam Development Authority PDA  should have a case registered against those responsible BSF 92 bn , under Environment Protection Act  EPA. The PDA, Shrine Board  SASB and MCP should also immediately undertake a cleaniliness drive in the region and ensure that the region is sanitized and cleaned. It has been months since the yatra and it's a matter of shame that the vcivic bodies have not yet got the area cleaned.

Do not curse nature,Introspect ourselves part 1.

Pahalgam August 24,2017: Our nature is unbalanced and it is not cooperative to us as per our expectations. If we see the trend of nature in past few years, it is becoming more and more unpredictable and uncooperative to human beings. In previous years we faced extreme climatic conditions all around the world : sometime extreme floods in India (Leh, Kedarnath etc.), sometime floods in China & Pakistan. Sometime record hot weather and wildfires in Russia, sometime heat waves in USA, severe draught in Niger, continuous melting of glaciers (Global warming) - hole in ozone layer - abnormal snowfall and unpredictable weather are the examples of our perturbed nature....

From Leh to Pahalgam: Awareness as the essential reform needed to ensure Environmental Conservation

From Leh to Pahalgam: Awareness as the essential reform needed to ensure Environmental Conservation

Current News Service (CNS)

Leh, Aug 21, CNS: A three member delegation of the Himalayan Welfare Organization (HWO), Pahalgam, executed a 5 day tour of Leh, Nobra, Chanthang, Kargil and Drass Vallies last week, as part of the organization’s ongoing project ‘Green Himalayas’. The team was led by Environmentalist, Mushtaq Ahmad Magrey (Phalgami), president, HWO. Manzoor Magrey, General Secretary, HWO and Muzaffar Ahmad Bhat, vice-president also attended the tour, that was planned to make an assessment of the environmental and ecological situation in these areas and see what lessons can be learnt in terms of environmental management.

The general situation of sanitation was observed to be very satisfactory in Leh town and the Municipal Committee of Leh was found to be doing a commendable job. People of the town are well aware of the dangers of polythene use and consequently no sale or use of polythene bags was observed by the visiting team. The government ahs however, not made any special efforts to arrange for and promote source-segregation of waste, which is not taking place in the town at the moment. Open dumping sites were also found to exist in the region and the state government needs to make due arrangements for garbage collection and disposal from far flung areas like Nobra and Chantang. The general awareness levels in Leh were found to be exemplary with no one even smoking in the open, let alone drive polluting vehicles.

Environmental awareness was generally found to be lacking in Kargil. The HWO team talked to a number of people in the region, interacted with school children and educationalists and met concerned officers. In Drass, loss of vast stretches of pasture land was observed due to electric lines and towers in total disregard of the need for environmental impact assessment.

The HWO also visited Sonamarg town on the way back and appealed to local authorities to ensure proper sanitation in the region, also offering to provide any volunteer support needed. The team has prepared a detailed report of changes that need to be made to existing policies and has emphasized the need for greater citizen-participation and the role of awareness in ensuring sustainable environmental solutions.

Notably, Mushtaq Phalgami, has also been raising the region’s environmental concerns through news-paper articles and interviews and has represented the organization in various conferences and seminars, within the state and outside. Pahalgami and his organization have also been actively using the J&K, Right to information act, 2009 to raise questions challenging illegal encroachment and land grab, illegal tree-felling, Vehicle washing, dumping and other environmentally damaging malpractices since 2008, resulting in many a positive administrative/legal interventions and a general culture of environmental awareness in the region.

We Kashmir and Jammu people should learn lesson from the people of Ladakh esp people from Leh

Pahalgam August 16,2017: We Kashmir and Jammu people should learn lesson from the people of Ladakh esp people from Leh who do not encroach even an inch of the footpaths. We, on the other hand, extend our shops using tirpal shades and display more stuff on the footpaths than in the  shops! So much so, that there's no space left for pedestrians to even walk on these footpaths. It's a matter of shame for the administration who cannot control the menace, and one can only hope that one day the people of Jammu and Kashmir will also develop the kind of civic sense that the people of Laddakh have.

We thank to Sonamarg Development Authority for responding to the concern we raised yesterday

Pahalgam August 14 2017: We thank to Sonamarg Development Authority for responding to the concern we raised yesterday  and for getting the Sonamarg sites cleaned. We would also like to suggest that the development authority hires a contractor for the job, who can ensure sanitation and hygine irrespective of yatra and other pressures. We also suggest that all development authorities, municipalitie procure the required machinery so that solid waste issues can be suitably settled. Finally, as a civil society organization we consider it to be both, our right and duty to ask these questions without any personal grudge or greivience and we must retierate that we are in the support in all  efforts to save the environment.

We must thank the concerned  MLA,DC Islamabad Ananthnag,   PWD Khanabal ,esp CEO PDA Pahalgam Development Authority

Pahalgam August 15,2017: We must thank the concerned  MLA,DC Islamabad Ananthnag,   PWD Khanabal ,esp CEO PDA Pahalgam Development Authority  for successfully undertaking Macdamization of roads in our village in Ganeshbal . Though it is the PWD who had the road made, the support and positive intervention of all these people mattered, as it is it the world runs on good intentions. I am however surpised at the malice and audacity of a certain politician who tried to obstruct the process. Whatever personal or other  differences with our villagers  one might have with somebody, the people of a region can not be and must not be made to pay the price.

Twice tenders for the macdamization  were cancelled but alhamdolillah the third time recently  the road got made, defeating the malicious intentions of these detractors. The people anyway know how to fight for their rights and whoever stands up for truth and justice shall ultimately win.

Pahalgam August 14,2017: The entire highway  pampore to Bijbhera is lined with bhaang crop (Charas Crop) on both sides, something one feels embarrassed to even see! We urge to the government, esp. to  DC, Ananthnag and DC, Pulwama to take immediate note of the matter and have the harvest destroyed and removed. We also urge and appeal to the SDMs esp. SDM, Pahalgam to have bhang removed from wherever it exists in land... Dachnipora/Khovripora in Pahalgam,Srigufwara and Sallar tehsils so that the society can be saved from the consequences of this evil harvest and those responsible can be brought to the books.

It's good that some people from the educated community make suggestions

Pahalgam August 13,2017: It's good that some people from the educated community make suggestions about what needs to be done in the region, but I request them to take some time out and come forward to help us serve the region on ground. Arm-chair intellectualism is not going to solve the problems on ground, for that volunteer service is needed, without expectations of salary or profit. If our educated friends are willing to come forward to take up this responsibility, which is in fact each one's duty, they are more than welcome, our doors are open for all, but when educated and wise people only sit back home and waste all their time in raising questions it's only a matter of sorrow.

Saw huge filth and heaps of garbage in Sonamarg destination today, with the administration esp  Sonamarg Development Authority sleeping over the matter.

Sonamarg August 13,2017: Saw huge filth and heaps of garbage in Sonamarg destination today, with the administration esp  Sonamarg Development Authority sleeping over the matter. The fact that there are heaps of plastic waste and garbage even near the Jamia Masjid Shreef, Hospital and other sensitive areas is a matter of serious concern and needs to be taken up seriously. If the Sonamarg Development Authority SDA doesn't have the will to carry about cleanliness properly in the tourist destination , they should tell us and we will send volunteers from Pahalgam to help and clean the spot . The PDA ,MCP and our collective efforts have ensured cleanliness in Pahalgam today and these are things we should keep learning from each other and the environment must not be compromised at any cost.

Any officer who tries to do the same is intimidated and threatened with transfer

Pahalgam August 08,2017: There's a lot of government and forest land in Pahalgam, which the Chief Executive Officer CEO,  Pahalgam Development Authority PDA and Forest Department Lidder division esp Pahalgam Forest Range are trying to fence as it should be, but the land mafia is trying to stop them from doing so in different ways . Any officer who tries to do the same is intimidated and   threatened with transfer. Such misuse of political influence by some politicians and bureaucrats needs to be condemned and the citizens, civil society and media need to come together to fight against this injustice.

The forest department top officials and Revnue Department is planning to sell off a number of forest compartments in Pahalgam range Lidder Forest Division.

Pahalgam August 07,2017: The forest department top officials and Revnue Department is planning to sell off a number of forest compartments in Pahalgam range Lidder Forest Division including compartment 34, 35ABC. Preaprations are on to sell dense forest land to private hands for private commercial use without any compensation etc. There will be a blind trading of land worth billions under a fraud 60c of 1944, though there is absolutely no law that allows the forest department to transfer ownership of forest land to private hands.

The civil society of Pahalgam, citizens, media and other organizations  should be prepared to teach these people a lesson if the situation arises and be prepared for a long political and legal battle ahead.

We cannot allow our forest land to be surrendered to private hands. The fraud that 60c of 1944 is needs to be exposed and we will do that no matter what the cost.
