December 30,2017: Mushtaq Pahalgami met a number of local youth at the Dak Banglow pahalgam today for the Youth leadership and community development workshop. Told the youth to focus on skill building and to take up professional vocational jobs either by setting up private businesses or in the private sector where they could afford a good standard of living and a good education for their children, instead of slogging in adhoc or daily wager government jobs wasting their talent, at merely 2000-2500 rupees a month! I also asked the youth to get involved with community action and social service and to rally together to make a better society by fighting against corruption and injustice when and wherever required.
There was dozens of youths including some officers / officials... Khalil Mir Shb DYC, Mohd Yousuf Sofi and others!

PDP's National spokesperson Sameer Kaul today told the media that the party is discussing possibilities of alliance with the BJP.

December 26,2014: PDP's National spokesperson Sameer Kaul today told the media that the party is discussing possibilities of alliance with the BJP. Though the statement says PDP will not compromise its pro-people agenda, the question is how possibly can the two issues of Kashmir's autonomy and revocation of AFSPA, which have been marketed as a major selling point of pdp's manifesto, be reconciled with BJP's clearly stated anti-Kashmir stand on article 370 and its longstanding history of divisive and vitriolic communal politics. BJP's history of anti-muslim politics, right from the communal carnages of Vadodara and Muzaffarnagar to the current spate of conversions across the nation, speaks volumes about their stand and intent for Kashmir, and for J&K, a muslim majority state. The party spokesperson has said that the defining condition for the alliance will be a full 6 yr term of chief ministership for their leader Mufti shb; clearly the party has made up its mind to trade off the region's autonomy for vested personal gain. The PDP or any regional party for that matter, will not only be  subverting the will of the people of the valley in doing so, but will also be irreparably damaging the democratic atmosphere and the delicate communal balance in the valley.

The government is trying to accomodate refugees from West Pakistan into Jammu and Kashmir and intends to grant them J&K identification Domicile Certificates.

December 26,2016: The government is trying to accomodate refugees from West Pakistan into Jammu and Kashmir and intends to grant them J&K identification Domicile Certificates.
This is clearly an injustice and part of the larger conspiracy to dilute the special status of J&K. The people of J&K will not tolerate this and will not accept this attempt on part of the government to derail peace in the state when things had started to normalise. The National Conference has repeatedly compromised the sovereignity of the state in past, Now Mehbooba headed PDP has been working to fulfill the agenda of RSS. Both these parties, NC and PDP seem to be concerned only for their chairs as opposed to the general interest of the state and its people. Whatever refugees comes from West Pakistan must be accomodated in Indian Mainland and not in J&K, which is a disputed territory. Similarly any Refugee  from India must be accomodated into Mainland Pakistan not in POK Kashmir, on either side of the LOC is disputed territory, and not the private property of the governments of India or Pakistan.

Save Wetlands Save The Future!

Save wetlands save the future!

Benefits of Wetlands

For years, people have treated wetlands like wastelands. They’ve drained and filled them in for self styled development and dumped garbage in their waters.

Most of us know by now wetlands are no place for a landfill. But wetlands are still in danger.

A new study published in Nature Climate Change predicts climate change will soon transform coastal wetlands. Shifting rainfall and rising sea levels will change many into mangrove forests and salty mud flats within the century.

1. Wetlands protect us from storms.

Scientists have also linked climate changeto more extreme weather. Wetlands help the areas hit hardest survive.

Intact wetlands provide hurricanes and superstorms a buffer from further destruction.

As Care2‘s S.E. Smith notes, “Researchers believe that wetlands, especially in combination with barrier islands, beaches, and berms, trap angry waters before they surge inland and damage property, crops, and infrastructure. The bigger a wetland the more protection, as the energy of the storm has time to die out before the water reaches solid ground.”

2. Wetlands control erosion.

Climate change contributes to coastal erosion as well, which creates bigger waves and changes wind directions. Wetland vegetation stops ocean waves from wearing away at the shore.

The plants also keep the soil underneath them intact with a web of roots.

3. Fish live and reproduce there.

When it comes to biodiversity, the Environmental Protection Agency puts wetlands on the same level as rain forests and coral reefs. Hundreds of fish speciesuse their waters to grow, spawn, hide and find food.

4. Rare species do too.

Forty-three percent of endangered and threatened animals in the United States depend on wetlands.

Think creatures like the whooping crane, red wolf and bald eagle.

5. Wetlands filter out sediment and pollution.

Nature’s kidneys.

That’s what some like to call wetlands because they trap pollutants and sediment before they reach open water.

6. Wetlands control floods.

Even with less devastating natural disasters, wetlands often prevent flooding.

As the Department of Natural Resourcesnotes, “Wetlands can slow runoff water, minimizing the frequency streams and rivers reach catastrophic flood levels.”

7. Wetlands stimulate the economy.

Around the world, wetlands rake in an estimated $14.9 trillion for nearby communities.

They provide everything including tourism and commodities like cranberries and seafood.

8. They’re great to visit.

Like canoeing, fishing or hiking? Visit the wetlands.

NOAA has some good tips to help you save this essential habitat.

Mega plantation drive in pahalgam!

SHARE WIDELY!

December 22,2017: We Himalayan Welfare Organization-HWO  are going to plant thousands of trees  in Pahalgam range in collaboration with the forests department, in the times to come, as part of the Green Himalayas Campaign. We request the government departments and all concerned stakeholders esp hotilers, teachers, government employees,  taxi walas, pony walas  to provide us saplings and join and help us in this noble cause. Even if every one of the 30,000 people in the pahalgam development authority  area come and  plant one tree each, it would make a very significant impact on the environment ecology and tourism  in the long term. Any individual or department willing to give us the saplings is more than welcome!

Agra visit December 2017.

December  20,2017: While the tourism department  government of uttar pradesh is minting lakhs  per day from entry tickets to  historical monuments built by Mughal Emperors , the Archaeological survey of India and Yogies tourism  is not paying due attention to their proper maintainence as can be seen in the pics of  Agra Fort  . Even religious sentiments are being hurt, as people are openly allowed to walk in with shoes into the grand and beautiful 'masjids build by mughls inside the fort premises. People are taking shoes right upto the membar shareef and there's not even a sign board to ask people to take off their shoes, I  disappointed when I saw.

Muslim wakf boards and other relevant organizations  are equally at fault in this as they have totally ignored the issues , instead of approaching the government  and courts over it.

Our health care system in 21th century!

December 03,2017: We had recently created pressure on CMO, Ananthnag to have a lady doctor posted to Pahalgam hospital but sadly, he has agreed  to have a lady doctor visit once every week which means for the other 6 days still only a staff nurse will attend to patients. We are appalled and shocked to see the way these officers look at us,our  rural poor people, the way they guiltlessly want to deny us even basic facilities like proper basic medical care. Even the political leaders who make big promises every election or those who have politically exploited the region continue from last 70 years time do not care for us. These people who have left no stone unturned in looting and exploiting the region only see us as vote banks but are blind to our suffering! Shame !!

Unscheduled power cuts, causing severe problems for the students and residents has become very difficult!

Unscheduled power cuts, causing severe problems for the students and residents has become very difficult!

December 02,2017: Frequent power cuts and undeclared load shedding in metered and un metered areas in pahalgam sub division is causing severe problems for the students and residents has become very difficult.
People fail to understand as to why the Power Development Department (PDD) resorts to frequent power cuts in the winter, when we have need the electricity most ....
We couldn’t fathom why poor people have face such kind  power cuts when they pay their bills regularly.
We appeal to the local administration esp District Development Commissioner Islamabad Ananthnag and Sub Division Magistrate Pahalgam to take immediate and serious note of the matter and do the needful to pull the region out of the ongoing power crisis?

Education department and our role!

December 02,2017: We had recently urged the education department to take notice of some RT and other teachers who appoint here in upper reaches of pahalgam or other habitations ,were not reporting to duty in their places in . We are glad and grateful to education department  esp secretary  education Farooq Ahmad Shah Sb that his department has been strict action taken against them, the teachers have been asked to report to their designated duty and some have even been suspended. There are some more influencial teachers, however, who have  not been suspended, and haven't even joined their duties yet . We demand that these defaulting teachers be also recalled like others have been, otherwise it will be discrimination, and we want fair justice to be done in the case.
